Based in Phnom Penh, Family FM 99.5 is on air 16.5 hours a day, potentially reaching half the population. Our friendly programming style addresses every level of human need – spiritual, emotional, family, social, physical. And the interactive ‘phone-in’ style of much of Family FM’s programming allows the audience to talk to us, as well as listen.
FEBC has broadcast in the Khmer language via short wave since 1957, from its station the Philippines. On air for an hour morning and evening, our short wave broadcasts focus mostly on the Christian life and are especially helpful to believers in remote areas.
With Internet and TV still beyond many people’s reach, radio is a significant medium in Cambodia. Radio by-passes illiteracy – still prevalent in many rural communities. It reaches thousands of people at a time – yet talks to each one personally in their home. It is friendly and non-threatening, but is still perceived as authoritative.
Radio excels at raising awareness and planting seeds in people’s minds. It prepares the way for on-the-ground workers, and helps to make their work effective. This applies both to Christian teaching and to practical education.
Through radio, we and our partners can reach people who are out of reach via any other medium. We can tell them about Jesus, and we can provide vital information and education which can enable better lives for them and their families.
